Young Hyson

Jonathan Patrick Sandiford is Young Hyson. A name he was dubbed back in 2013 by his younger brother. A fine green tea with origins in China, Young Hyson is harvested before the rains, has a full-bodied taste and is golden in color. Coincidentally, the high-quality green tea also sounds like the name of a contemporary artist. The two found the intersection of these two words' literal meaning and possible interpretation compelling. One would not immediately think to link tea and hip-hop. Similarly, with his work, Young tends to draw influence from a wide range of individuals, styles, musical genres and aesthetics that more than likely would never intersect. He looks for ways to show you where they do.

Young Hyson is a Photographer, Visual Brand Consultant and Musician. He's interested in telling stories through style. At the end of the day, he's a tastemaker. He can identify trends in culture and make predictions about where the culture is heading. He bets high when the value or significance of a work of art has yet to be fully understood or appreciated by the masses. He is highly influenced by the music and cultures created by hip-hop and indie-alternative music. Together, with his life experience, these art forms frame the way in which he views the world. He presents it to you through the lens of his camera and through his music.

Young Hyson is a graduate of the University of Missouri where he received his Bachelor's degree in Psychology.
